Promotion of Hindi

Central Hindi Directorate, a subordinate organisation under this Ministry, has been engaged in propagation of Hindi in non-Hindi speaking States by implementing various schemes such as preparation of Dictionaries, Correspondence Course for non-Hindi speaking States, Extension programmes which include the programme of neo Hindi Writers` Scheme, Students` Study Tour, Free Distribution of Hindi Books to Institutions located in non-Hindi speaking areas, Book Exhibition-cum-Sale and Scheme of Awards to Hindi Writers of non-Hindi speaking States. Further, Kendriya Hindi Sansthan (KHS), an autonomous body under this Ministry, promotes & propagates the teaching and training of Hindi nationwide as per the provisions of the Article 351 of the Constitution of India. KHS, having its Headquarter at Agra, and through its 8 Regional Centers established at Delhi, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Shillong, Mysore, Dimapur, Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad, is working to improve the standard of teaching Hindi at various levels, to train Hindi Teachers, to provide avenues for the advance study and comparative linguistics related to different Indian languages, to organize research, to formulate, undertake and facilitate such courses. 

Central Institute of Indian Languages(CIIL), a subordinate organisation under this Ministry, through its Regional Language Centres at Bhubaneswar, Lucknow, Guwahati, Patiala, Pune, Mysore and Solan works for the promotion of languages of various states for national integration. 

The Scheme of National Translation Mission (NTM) of the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) is entrusted basically with the responsibility of translating knowledge. The mandate of National Translation Mission is to translate Knowledge Text Books from English to 22 Indian languages of the VIII schedule of the Indian Constitution. 

Knowledge Text Books assigned under the NTM for translation from English to Hindi are as follows: 

• Indian Constitution: Cornerstone of the Nation; Austin, Granville 

• Fundamentals of Molecular Spectroscopy; Banwell, Colin N.; Mccash, Elaine M. 

• Heat Transfer; Holman J. P. 

• Mechanical Engineering Design Shigley, Joseph E. 

• Invertebrate Zoology Jordan, E.L. and Verma, P. S. 

• Fundamentals of Sociology, Gisbert, P. S. 

The NTM has also undertaken the following translation works from English to Hindi. 

1. Translation of National Curriculum Framework for Teachers Education 2009 

2. Public Education Material for Prevention of Communication Disorder: Phase III, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH). 

Kendriya Hindi Sansthan has Seven Regional Centers in the non-Hindi speaking States/UTs. They are in Hyderabad, Guwahati, Shillong, Mysore, Dimapur, Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad.
